The long-serving nanny to the Prince and Princess of Wales has been honoured after more than a decade of dedicated service to their children, marking rare public recognition for one of the most trusted figures inside the royal household. Maria Teresa Turrión Borrallo, who has cared for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis since 2014, has been awarded the Royal Victorian Medal in Silver as part of King Charles’ New Year Honours list.

The honour is a personal gift from the monarch, recognising her long-standing service to the Royal Family.

Borrallo, originally from Spain and trained at the elite Norland College in Bath, joined the Wales household shortly after the birth of Prince George. She has remained a constant presence through key milestones in the children’s lives, including school years, public appearances, and royal family events. Although she largely operates behind the scenes, she is considered a central figure in the children’s early upbringing and day-to-day stability.

The Royal Victorian Medal is awarded at the sole discretion of the monarch, making it one of the most personal honours within the royal system. It recognises individuals who have provided exceptional service directly to the Royal Household over a sustained period. Borrallo’s award places her among a small group of royal household staff to receive formal public recognition for private service.

Born in Spain, Borrallo trained at Norland College, an institution known for producing elite nannies for high-profile families around the world. Graduates are trained not only in childcare, but also in security awareness, etiquette, and crisis handling—skills considered essential for working within royal environments.

While the Wales family has maintained strict privacy around their children, Borrallo has occasionally been seen accompanying them at official and family events. She has also travelled with the family during key royal engagements, reflecting the level of trust placed in her role.

The award was officially included in the 2026 New Year Honours list and later presented at Windsor Castle during an investiture ceremony. Royal sources say the recognition reflects the continuity and stability she has provided to the Wales household over more than a decade.
