Dana White has officially revealed Islam Makhachev's next challenge—and the UFC champion's first welterweight title defense is set to headline UFC 330.
The UFC CEO announced on Tuesday that Makhachev will put his welterweight crown on the line against Ian Machado Garry in the main event of UFC 330 at Philadelphia's Xfinity Mobile Arena on August 15.
The blockbuster bout will mark Makhachev's first title defense since capturing the welterweight championship at UFC 322 last November, extending the dominance of one of the most feared fighters in mixed martial arts.
"The main event of UFC 330 will be Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry," White announced.
Makhachev enters the fight with a staggering professional record of 28-1, having lost just once in his career—a knockout defeat to Adriano Martins more than a decade ago in 2015. Since then, the Russian star has established himself as one of the UFC's most dominant champions.
Standing across from him will be Garry, one of the fastest-rising contenders in the division. The Irish fighter boasts a 17-1 professional record, with his only defeat coming against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 in December 2024.
The championship showdown is expected to answer a major question facing the division: Can anyone stop Makhachev's reign?
UFC 330's co-main event will also feature a title fight, with women's champion Mackenzie Dern making the first defense of her title against top contender Gillian Robertson.
White also expressed excitement about the UFC's long-awaited return to Philadelphia.
"This is the first time we're back in Philly since 2019, I think, so I love it," White said. "The Philly fans are awesome, man. I love Philly cheesesteaks and I can't wait to get back there. The fans are the best."
The remainder of the UFC 330 fight card has yet to be announced, but with two championship bouts already confirmed, the event is shaping up to be one of the promotion's biggest cards of the year.
