Mercedes has withdrawn its appeal for a right of review of Steward's decision to cancel out the 5 second time penalty imposed on Pierre Gasly, of Alpine F1 team, from the Monaco grand Prix held on June 7, 2026.
Pierre Gasly was given a five second time penalty in Monaco grand Prix that cost him a podium. After the race Alpine F1 team appealed for a review and the decision came out in favour of Gasly who stole P3 from Isack Hadjer of Red Bull.
In a statement released on Friday, Mercedes said: "Following the decision to cancel Pierre Gasly's time penalty, it was important for us to explore all available options to address the impact of speeding penalty on the race result. We had a limited time window in which to apply for the right of review during the race weekend in Barcelona, and did so in order to reserve out position in this regard".
Futhermore the officials said: "Our collaborative discussion with FIA and Formula 1 has shown their determination to review the unique circumstances arising from the Monaco GP and to proactively address the factors that caused them. In the face of this clear determination, we have concluded that further pursuit of our Rights of Reviews application will not serve our team or the sport and thus we have withdrawn our submission."
Mercedes may have dropped its appeal against the Pierre Gasly incident, but the appeals lodged by McLaren and Red bull are still moving forward for the official hearing on June 20, 2026, via video conference.
